Contains documents for Cootes' Store; church histories/other similar papers; school documents; and other miscellaneous business papers not related to families. A number of documents for Cootes' Store include legal and financial records, charges and receipts, post office records, and records relating to a bark business. Church histories/directories, etc. are for local area churches (ex. Cooks Creek Presbyterian Church; Methodist Church, Dayton; Port Republic Methodist Church; St. Stephens Reformed Church, Harrisonburg; Trissels Mennonite Church, Broadway and the Hebrew Congregation of Harrisonburg, the latter incl. a history of Jewish settlement in the area. An undated TM "Some Old Churches of Rockingham and Neighboring Counties" by Ruebush and Wayland is also included. (cont.) School documents include catalogs for a Girl's Home School which later became the Van Bora College for Young Ladies, and a State Summer Institute for Teachers, both at Luray; and a Prospectus for an Industrial School at Massanetta Springs. Miscellaneous business papers include the By-laws of the Page Valley Telephone Co.; an 1855 Rockingham Mutual Fire Insurance Co. policy; a subscription form for the Golden Horseshoe Tavern, Elkton; and information on a 1913 (?) merger of the News Register Co. and the Rockingham Pub. Co.
